Probably, I'll be moving this site to another host, as
DreamHost doen't care about the security of logs & stats.

I guess the security isn't something people in shared hosting industry feel comfortable with.

You can see the uptime stats of the server here:

I have been super busy, working on a few different projects.
But I still managed to start writing the python based BB system.
And I feel more and more we need better language.
Python is a solid and very useful language. It's pretty fast for a script language, too.
Yet, I can't do what I really want, with it.
I want macro, like lisp or
logix.
Actually, I want "Capsule", which can be used as a function or a macro, depending on the situation.
I want meta language capability, like OCaml or
boo.
I want the speed of OCaml without sacrificing the flexibility.
I like the extreme simpicity of Forth (but I hate the syntax).
I guess I have to make it by myself, one day.

This week, I'm busy with two projects and a few other things.
Also, I'm proposing different package promotion methods for hosts.
- Instead fo focusing on maximum bandwidth/diskapaces, give users maximum they can use up and then surge allowance.
For example, a host can advertise for 1GB disk space and 50GB bandwidth WITH surge protection up to 10GB/500GB.
The surge protection/allowance can be used up to a week or two, let's say.
With this kind of arrangement, user know how much they can use without causing any problem to the server, and ALSO they don't have to worry in case of sudden popularity.
- Another way is to sell additional surge insurance.
A host can sell the package users can use up, and the user can purchase additional surge protection insurance plan allowing her/him to go over the normal limit for up to a week or two.
This way, the users who prefer to pay low price can choose to be shut down if they get traffic surge, while others can pay a bit more to have the protection/assurance.

I have been busy with the parties and holidays and also the test/learning process of a new system.
I made a new thread about security in
WebHostingTalk.
Please let us know of the security situation of your server.
It's for both hosts and users.
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=573049
Judging from the reactions, not many hosts are comfortable talking about the security situation.
Probably not many users are aware of security, either.
As many hosts are small "cPanel driver" type of operation, they depend on cPanel for their security, most probably.
Some hosts use professional help, which is a good thing, IMO.
Probably, there are hosts who have good enough knowledge, though.
When we talk about reliability, the security is an important element.
Without solid security, the host can't possibly offer very good reliability.

This week, I'm gathering info about
GenerousHosts that offer Free or discounted hosting and other services.
So far,
The Ambitious Lemon looks really ambitious and nice.
Although I have no expericence with them, yet, I feel that it smells good.
I like the way they present themselves and the simple site construction.
Unfortunately, they are not taking application for the free account, at this moment.
But they say they still accept IRS approved NPO.

Also, this paid activity will help me to finance the other side.
